A Water-Rich Country, A Thirsty People

SDG 6: Water and Sanitation for All

Good day everyone, my name is Sofonie Dala, and I am from Angola. I am delighted to announce the launch of my new channel dedicated to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation for all.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 calls for clean water and sanitation for everyone, forever. Water is not a luxury—it is a human right. It affects our health, education, and dignity. Yet, by 2030, will we truly achieve this goal?

Today, 9 out of 10 people have access to clean water near their homes—but what about the rest? Hundreds of millions still suffer from unsafe water, poor sanitation, and water-related diseases. Why should where you are born decide whether you live healthy or not?

Angola is a painful example. My country has abundant water resources, yet many communities face severe water scarcity. Why? Climate change, droughts, weak infrastructure, pollution, and poor management. How can a water-rich country leave its people thirsty?

I have personally experienced days without water and electricity. These are not statistics—this is real life. How can children study, families stay healthy, or communities grow without reliable water?

So I ask you:

  • Why is access still unequal?

  • Who is responsible for closing this gap?

  • And what role will we play to ensure water and sanitation for all?

Today, I invite you to reflect as you watch my documentary—because water is life, and the time to act is now.
